A banquet, finals, and a mission trip, all rolled into one month. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s go back to the beginning…
What am I writing about? That’s a good question. I’m not sure if I even know.
But it has been a while since I have really added anything of substance here (time to make up for it all in one post, haha). It’s a new year, a new day. Truly though, the days are nothing special. Only the way the days are treated and what is done on them makes them special. Simply by treating a day as a holiday, it becomes a holiday. Heaven knows, I haven’t really done anything of import on the “official” holidays. I slept through Christmas (I’m serious, I slept until 5pm) and about the only time I do something for the holidays is when I’m invited somewhere. I’m not complaining though. I only have myself to blame. I think it’s much better just to make your own “holidays”. You have free time, friends, and family, what else do you need? Might even be cheaper to pick random days too.
I realize now that I’m not here to talk about commercialism or corporate holidays though.
..I wonder if we’re allowing a love for God to be replaced by a love for fellow humans. Relationships are good, but it seems to me that human relationships are sometimes idolized, to the extent that they become the source of our “happiness”. I love people, but God is important too. At some point you need to decide which is your higher priority.
Yes, such a deplorable internet meme is it not? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, don’t worry about it.
So I have started this now after building up a rather extensive notes page on my facebook page. It is still there-and should be there for quite some time. But now we start a new chapter, and a new year. I expect that I will update this “blog” at least once a week with just about anything I happen to fancy at the time. Controversy should be rather common, as I am rather fond of learning to think in new and strange ways. On that note, I welcome any and all comments as long as they involve actual thought processes and are not simply boorish displays of profanity meant to incite a bestial mentality. And now something to chew on:
If the God most Christians believe in can see the past, present, and future, what would happen if you prayed for yesterday? Well, there are some problems with this. First, if God answered your prayer, you would not know to pray about it the next day-therefore meaning you would have no reason to pray about it. But if God does not answer your prayer, you would know He had not answered it-because you would still remember the thing you are praying about.
If everyone prayed for the things that happened yesterday and God answered all their prayers, they would not know He had answered them and would have no reason to increase in their faith. On the other hand, if God is answering our prayers before we pray them, perhaps we should keep this in mind-and thank Him for all those little things went right throughout our day.
Perhaps this is one reason why Christians need to live in the present and not the past. I have yet to explain why we should not fixate on the future, but I am sure there is a good reason. Perhaps I should just read some C.S. Lewis
